A three term CRVI Board President, Susan Kennedy has been a member of the Crystal Run Village, Inc. Board of Directors since September 1998. “I have been blessed to serve on the CRVI board for over a decade and most recently, as the President of the Board. It has meant the world to me to watch and work alongside so many gifted and talented individuals; transforming the vision and improving the quality of lives of so many. As my Presidency term comes to a close, I want to thank so many that have shared and continue to share their visions, passion and love with the special individuals we serve.”
Jim Lawler is newly elected to the BOD as of July 2103. Prior to his retirement from CRVI, Jim served 14 years as Executive Director. Lawler entered the mental health field in this country at a time when individuals with developmental disabilities and their families were affected by dramatic changes – both positive and negative – in government policies and laws, social attitudes and service delivery practices. During his 43 years with the agency Jim was well respected and renowned for his active support in the community, successful collaborative partnerships with organizations who share the CRVI mission and for his service on many Boards.Jim is actively involved in many local organizations including Beautiful People, the New York State Association of Community and Residential Agencies and the Mid-Hudson Coalition for the Development of Direct Care Practice, Inc., Lawler has served for many terms as the Secretary of the Joint Membership of Health and Community Agencies, a federation of 37 voluntary organizations dedicated to providing the residents of Orange County with a comprehensive and seamless service delivery system for recovery, health and wellness. He is also, a member of the Wallkill East Rotary Club.
Lawler holds a Humanistic Masters Degree in Professional Services from SUNY New Paltz. He earned his undergraduate degree from University College in Dublin, Ireland and a Higher Diploma in Education from University College in Galway, Ireland. He lives in Middletown with his wife Patricia where they have raised four children. The couple is blessed with the joy of six grandchildren.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Debbie relocated to the Hudson Valley region of New York State as a teenager, and soon began pursuing her passion for music, performing and traveling with live bands. Major a world-class vocalist and performer have been teaching at INSPIRE KIDS Pre-School since 2002. She is a private vocal coach and piano instructor, professional singer and parent. By bringing her insight and unique understanding of how to engage people with cognitive and physical disabilities she’s inviting them into the magical world of performing arts. Debbie has conceptualized an innovative teaching method that serves to educate and empower students to discover and develop their own inherent creative talents. She is the Founder and visionary force behind an amazing non-profit venture called, “ZYLOFONE” (www.Zylofone.org).Debbie has conceptualized an innovative teaching method that serves to educate and empower students to discover and develop their own inherent creative talents. Major is also a prominent vocal coach, songwriter/arranger and instrumentalist who has touched the lives of many.
Michael J. Flynn, a Vice President with Manufacturers and Traders (M&T) Bank. At M&T Bank he is responsible for the development and maintenance of commercial banking relationships. As a member of the Crystal Run Village Board of Directors, he brings his professional expertise along with a sincere admiration of the agency’s passion for its mission of providing services for the integration and empowerment of people with disabilities.Flynn is an active board member for The Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Club, Leadership Orange, Orange County United Way and REHAB Programs, and serves as a committee chair for the Astor Home for Children. He received his Masters Degree in Business Administration at Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh and a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Finance from SUNY Oswego. He is a resident of Middletown.
Donald Green is the Business Solutions Coordinator for continuing and professional development at SUNY Orange. His work at the Business Solutions and Professional Development Department of SUNY Orange provides customized training and professional development programs for businesses, health care institutions and public sector organizations. Greene is the former and 3rd generation CEO of Green’s Department Store. His reputation as an innovator in the retail industry resulted in his appointment to the National Retail Federation Board of Directors.He is an accomplished corporate trainer and has provided services to a diverse array of companies nationally and internationally, including Neiman-Marcus and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts.
Al Beers is owner of Healthy Home Cleaning & Restoration an Orange County based firm that provides the services of water damage, mold removal, carpet and upholstery cleaning. Al is also a licensed Real Estate agent with the Green Team located in Warwick, NY. He’s been a member of the business community in good standing for over 17 years.
Al and his wife have a child with Down syndrome and have long been strong advocates of the developmentally disabled. He resides in Florida, NY with his son and wife. As the parent of a child with an intellectual disability, Beers has close personal experience with the issues that affect families. He places strong emphasis on valuing everyone in our society and is a strong advocate for services that offer greater community inclusion. He is a past president of the board of directors of Family Empowerment Council.Al is an honors graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. In addition he holds multiple certifications in the cleaning and restoration field.
Longtime child advocate Pam Fandl is employed by Ages and Stages, LLP as On-going Service Coordination Supervisor, where she is involved in therapeutic and educational services that help children and families grow and reach their potential. Fandl works with children from birth to 3 years, who are experiencing developmental delays. Previously she held the position of Child Associate for the Mental Health Program at Pine Bush School District, working for 12 years with children at-risk to identify students with emotional issues for the purpose of increasing their self-esteem.Fandl has first-hand experience in the professionalism of the agency’s direct support staff and their practice of person-centeredness. Her son, Justin, has lived at Corbett Road house (a CRVI residential home) since 2008. “I have seen the ‘magic’ they do” Fandl said. “The staff that are the circle of support around my son do more than care for him. They make it possible for him to express himself so that he may communicate with others. He has the opportunity to live his life as an adult in the way he wants.”Fandl resides in Middletown, N.Y.
Bill Fioravanti is the Vice President, Membership for the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, responsible for membership development, sales and services, members’ inquiries and concerns and for soliciting all event sponsorships. Fioravanti also serves as an officer of the YMCA of Middletown, N.Y. Previously he led the local Boys & Girls Clubs for 6 years through an intensive period of change and growth including an expansion of its youth development programs into Sullivan County. Fioravanti has much insight regarding individuals with intellectual disabilities from his mother who works in the field.Fioravanti is a member and past president of Wallkill East Rotary Club and currently serves as Advisory Board Chair for the Academy of Information Technology at Middletown High School.
Linda Beezer was appointed to the Crystal Run Village, Inc. Board of Directors in 2013. A graduate from Fair Lawn High School in New Jersey, Linda continued her education at William Patterson University, majoring in Early Childhood Education. For the past twenty-five years Linda has focused her energy and skills on her two sons who were both diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome. Linda has worked as a 1:1 aide at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center and remains a fierce advocate for those with developmental disabilities.
William J. Sammis was appointed to Executive Director in March 2012.Previously, Sammis was Deputy Executive Director of Administrative Services, a position he held since 2004. For the past several years, Bill has been the leader of the agency’s Internal Improvement team, dedicated to nurturing innovative techniques to improve staff awareness in person-centered values so that individuals receiving disability support services from the agency will have better lives.Sammis also holds a position on the faculty of the Leadership Institute at the University of Delaware where he instructs twice annually to the leadership of human service agencies from across the country on how to initiate organizational change and strategic planning aimed at improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families.Sammis is also a member of NYASACRA (New York State Trade Association), and the Audit Committee for Pine Bush School District.Sammis holds an MBA in Public Administration – University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Science – Accounting, S.U.N.Y. New Paltz and an Associate of Science – Business Administration, U.C.C.C.1983
Scheuermann joined the human services agency in 1999, and has successfully held a number of positions of increasing responsibility during her tenure, including revenue accountant, controller and most recently Deputy Executive Director of Administrative Services. Scheuermann is charged with leading the entire organization’s financial infrastructure and addressing budgetary implications faced by the organization due to the shift to managed care imposed by the federal and state government, economic factors and internal audits.She is a member of NYSACRA (New York State Trade Association) and maintains a leadership role on the Steering Committee and is a CPA licensed by the State Vermont.Her BS Accounting degree was earned from Vermont State College in Johnson.
As the Acting Director of Human Resources, James Cummings oversees the Human Resources and Staff Development departments. .
